croon sweet things to me, Greg

I thought Mass Effect was a terrific game, easily the best RPG since Knights of the Old Republic. Besides all the great combat, characterization, voice acting, music, graphics and story line, what really sold the game to me was how much control you had over your character's personality. Normally games with good and evil meters force you to either be a baby killer or Mother Theresa. Mass Effect isn't like that. You can be ruthless to accomplish the greater good if you want, you can be an idealist or a badass, you can save the galaxy for all its inhabitants or you can play the embodiment of manifest destiny for human betterment. All of these options blend seamlessly to make a character that feels believable in a way many other 2D RPG personas do not. So it's kind of hard for me to imagine a Mass Effect 2 that's way better than the first, but Greg Zeschuk swears it's happening.

I mean, if you asked me how to make Mass Effect 2 a big success, I'd say to fix the texture pop ins, put less emphasis on the Mako combat, and then make Mass Effect 1 again (but with an updated story and characters of course). But no, says Greg, they're shooting for more than that. Enriching the side quests is certainly not a bad idea, since I think most of them took place in the same bunker, but how else could you possibly make that game better?

Long and the short of it is that I am becoming a huuuge Bioware fangirl. *hugs the Bioware* Did you know Greg Zeschuk and Ray Muzyka both have MDs but went into game design instead of practicing medicine because they simply enjoyed it more? Dudes be smart.
