I had a pretty odd day today. Yesterday I heard the sound of running water and found that the sprinkler system was spraying water out of the main box duhickey thing on the side of the house. I turned off the water to the sprinklers and called the plumbing company we've always used. About 3 1/2 years ago when we had our sprinklers blown for winter, whoever we hired to do it failed to turn off the pipe outside and it burst when it got too cold outside so we called Dinotech and they repaired it. Then a few months ago when we had the water softener drain rerouted (again by Dintech) Gordon said the guy turned on the sprinkler water by mistake. So we figured one way or the other, they were responsible. I called and spoke to a woman who said she'd send someone out first thing this morning. Sure enough at 7am I get a call from a guy named Zack. He tells me the tech is on the way. Well here's how my day went.
7am - Zack calls. Gordon is getting ready to take a shower so I just throw some clothes on and wait downstairs thinking he'll be here in 20-30 minutes max and that I should be done with all of this and in the shower by say 9am. Luckily I didn't have much work today.
8:30am - I call Zack to find out where the guy is. He puts me on hold, talks to the tech and then comes back on the line to tell me he's stuck in some traffic but should be here in 15 - 20 minutes.
9:45am - I call Zack again and again he tells me the guy is stuck in traffic but should be here in 15 - 20 minutes. At this point I'm so frustrated I don't even know what to do. I would have just cancelled the whole thing but since I feel like they should repair this for free I'm stuck with them. I have to leave the house no later than 11am and when I voice my frustration Zack actually asks me what I expect him to do about it. Uh, get your guy here would work.
10:15am - I call Zack and tell him there's obviously no point in me waiting anymore and I'm leaving the house. I tell him I'll be back around noon and he says he'll reschedule the tech for then. I told him it had taken the guy 4 hours already, I was sure he could find a way to take his time for another 2.
I rush to get everything taken care of and get home at 11:30am. I go to take a quick shower and find that the water isn't very hot. I'm like what the hell is going on around here? I check the water heater and the pilot isn't lit. I'm fiddling around with it and realize that yesterday when I turned off the water for the sprinklers, I first turned off the gas to the water heater by mistake. I got it lit and at least felt like one thing was going right today.
12noon - I call Zack and ask him to tell me honestly if someone is coming. He says yes, should be here in...you guessed it 15 - 20 minutes.
12:25pm Zack calls me to say the tech is nearby but is lost so I give him directions.
12:45pm Tech arrives! I stand on the driveway for several minutes while he futzes around in his truck. When he gets out and approaches me, he seems like an ok guy. He's got 80s hairband hair but introduces himself and seems like a decent person. We go to the backyard to look at the thingamajig and he unscrews the top to find that a plastic bobble thing that keeps the water from flushing back through the system has a crack in it. He says he needs to replace the top section of this thing but he needs to go buy what he needs. Our area is fairly new and about as far SE as you can go and still be in the Denver suburbs so he has no idea where he is. I really think he was lost all that time this morning but was too much of a moron to call me and get directions. Anyway I give him directions to go to the Home Depot about 3 miles away. I give him my cell # and hope I see him again.
2:45pm - Tech is still gone. I actually fall asleep on the couch and take a 45 minute nap. When I wake up I realize I have to get out of here and do more work. I call Zack and tell him the guy has been gone for 2 hours and may have been abducted by aliens or something. He puts me on hold for about 5 minutes and comes back to tell me that the tech has been driving all over the place looking for the parts he needs. He found one place that can get them for him but wont have the stuff until tomorrow morning. I asked why I didn't hear from him sooner if he wasn't coming back. He says this all just concluded with him finding out he won't get the parts until tomorrow. Ooookay. How this company can stay in business wasting half their day locating parts because they don't keep them on hand baffles me. So the good news is that it is covered under warranty and the tech can fix it tomorrow without coming into the house or me having to be home so he's on his own.
I swear, every year it's something with our sprinklers. If I was much of a drinker, I would've gotten shitfaced after all that. But instead since I'm a foodaholic we went to the mall for greek (Renzio's I love their food) and I bought some stuff at Bath and Body Works. I had a $10 off $30 coupon just begging to be used.
