I think I aced my linear algebra midterm. The first three problems were fairly simple plug-and-chug ("Find a basis and the dimension of this subspace", "Find the eigenvalues and eigenvectors of this matrix and an orthonormal matrix that diagonalizes it", "Solve this system of equations.") The fourth one was a proof, which I think I did correctly even though I'm crap at proving things. On to complex variables!

After walking in my front door, I was confronted by the adorable vision of Bowser and LOGO basking under the heat lamp. Which would have been a common and expected sight, except that Bowser was one turtle thickness closer to the lamp than usual, and LOGO was being rather rudely shaded by a small spiky chelonian.

I just got emails from two different soon-to-be brides (who don't know each other), within 20 minutes of each other, discussing bridesmaid dresses. *scared look* I think I somehow missed the memo that provided the shared mental frequency we're all supposed to be on. Or maybe my tuner is busted!

I've been basically slacking on exercise recently... I decided that I could meet fat loss objectives just by hiking every week or two, and krav maga isn't doable with grad school classes, so I haven't really been doing anything other than hiking. Which is good and all, but is probably going to leave me with puny T-rex arms if I keep working the legs while completely ignoring my upper body.

This weekend Adam and I did a pretty easy hike -- only 12.6 miles, overnight camping, and it wasn't even up a mountain! Total elevation gain/loss was only about 1600 feet. Mostly we wanted an excuse to test out our overnight gear.
I definitely like toting my internal frame pack more than strapping everything onto my Camelbak. The harness on that really isn't designed for 35-lb loads

Chagrin & bear it: Did something dumb in a math assignment, forcing me to waste several hours trying to factor a complex quartic polynomial rather than doing it the non-retarded way.
On the bright side, I've brushed up on doing long division with polynomials and complex roots.

My professor posted the second homework assignment, and asked us to also read the Wikipedia article on Eigenvalues and Eigenvectors. Wow, Wikipedia being used as a reputable educational source. I use it all the time to edutain (educate + entertain) myself on something I have casual interest in, but I wouldn't use it as an academic reference.
