The clouds look like they're going somewhere tonight loosely streaming through the breath of millions of lusty ladies. They may be way up in the sky but they've got shit going for them.

Virtues are pretty classy things to have. I stand up for what is right and good. But only when it's convenient and I'm feeling in a pretty good mood.

And that too is natural enough. In fact, it comes to this: nobody is capable of really thinking about anyone, even in the worst calamity. For really to think about someone means thinking about that person every minute of the day, without letting one's thoughts be diverted by anything-- by meals, by a fly that settles on one's cheek, by household duties, or by a sudden itch somewhere. But there are always flies and it

But we were never lonely and never afraid when we were together. I know that the night is not the same as the day: that all things are different, that the things of the night cannot be explained in the day, because they do not then exist, and the night can be a dreadful time for lonely people once their loneliness has started. But with Catherine there was almost no difference in the night except that it was an even b

I got an award today for being the greatest. For having a way with words, they say. I’m told I write with clarity--that my words are concise and pretty. I keep getting phone calls from the press. From the writers and from the critics.
They say, “Who has inspired you?”
They say, “What was your motive?”
I tell them I don’t know and hang up the phone. I don’t answer their questions so th

The carpet is old and gray, ashen with years of forlorn footfalls. I cast my hand down to its scratchy flattened surface, "tell me my friend, do you have secrets?" the carpet looks up with a melancholy glow and reminisces adoringly of years past. Delicately it balances on the fringe of reality...
I must have been on to something.

For the first time in a long time I thought about Maman. I felt as if I understood why at the end of her life she had taken a 'fiancé,' why she had played at beginning again. Even there, in that home where lives were fading out, evening was a kind of wistful respite. So close to death, Maman must have felt free then and ready to live it all again. Nobody, nobody had the right to cry over her. And I felt ready to live

Often the best part of life was when you weren't doing anything at all, just mulling it over, chewing on it. I mean, say you figure everything is senseless, then it can't be quite senseless because you're aware that it's senseless and your awareness of senselessness almost gives it sense. You know what I mean? An optimistic pessimism.

Jack and I had to walk a 3-hour tour at night in an ice-cold rain. We weren't suppoused to talk to each other or anyone. But the nonsensical posts he and I had to walk intersected at 1 point. Jack muttered to me at one such meeting, "What would you do if you had heard someone just dropped an atom bomb on New York City?"
It would be 10 minutes before we passed again. I thought of a few answers that were obv
