The current state of men's tennis reminds me of women's tennis in the early 80s. Back then, it seemed like whenever you watched the finals of a women's tournament (and that was in the days before umpteen cable sports channels so you only saw the finals), there would be Martina Navratilova and Chris Evert. The reason, of course, was that there was little competitive depth at the time. Thankfully, wom

It is with great sadness that I report six-time champion Takeru Kobayashi lost his crown in the annual Nathan's Hot Dog Eating contest. Joey Chestnut of San Jose ate 66 hot dogs in 12 minutes to edge Kobayashi's 63. Kobayashi recently had a wisdom tooth extracted, but it did not seem to affect him as both Kobayashi and Chestnut posted presonal records. Interestingly, this is only the second time sin

There's a video of a panel session on Guy Kawasaki's blog with five entrepreneurs who bootstrapped their companies into successful ventures. The most impressive ones are PlentyOfFish and HotOrNot. PlentyOfFish has only one employee, founder Markus Frind, has taken no venture capital funding, and it makes over $5 million in revenue each

For some reason, Facebook has replaced Myspace as the social network du jour. Part of the reason is the new Facebook platform that allows third parties to deploy their widgets on Facebook. But really, what's the big deal? Why is everyone jumping on the Facebook bandwagon? As a participant in many different social networks since 2003, including Facebook, Myspace, LinkedIn, Friendster, and Tribe

I was going to post about this earlier, but I wanted to wait for the results of the French Open.
For the past year, I've come across stories here and there suggesting that Roger Federer is the best male tennis player ever. He has undoubtedly compiled an impressive list of accomplishments, and he could realistically break Pete Sampras' record for Grand Slam wins. However, I credit his suc

I got tired of Last.fm, so I'm trying out a new music site called Lala. So far, so good. Lala lets you search by artist, listen to albums (if tracks are available), and buy or trade albums. The feature I use most is the "Play this and similar artists" feature. Lala's implementation is better than Last.fm's. For one thing, the songs they play actually

The Leaky Cauldron reported that Universal Studios in Orlando is building "The Wizarding World of Harry Potter", a Hogwarts-type theme park. The park is scheduled to open in early 2010.
Quoted from the article: "This new theme park will include facets such as a Hogsmeade section, the Forbidden Forest, and even Hogwarts Cast

Remember on The X-Files, the conspiracy group had DNA samples from Samantha, Scully, and millions of other people? They supposedly got the information when people were vaccinated as kids. Now I'm reading about a company called 23andMe that wants to analyze your DNA via saliva samples that you se

The company where I work was abuzz this morning because Microsoft acquired internet advertising company aQuantive. This makes the fourth acquisition of an advertising company in the past month. Google kicked it off by buying Doubleclick, then Yahoo bought RightMedia, and earlier this week, WPP Group bought 24/7 Real
