ESPN has a story about the 1987 Fiesta Bowl, which it credits as creating the impetus for the post-bowls national championship games we have now under the current unsatisfying solution called the BCS.
The 1987 Fiesta Bowl has a special place in my heart as being possibly the most heart-breaking sports event for me. For those who

My alma mater, the Cal Bears, beat Texas A&M in the Holiday Bowl last night, 45-10. It was an impressive performance, especially on offense, where Cal gained 476 total yards, led by Pac-10 Offensive Player of the Year Marshawn Lynch. The Bears finished their season with a 10-3 record.
Coming up on Sunday, the Miami Hurricanes take on Nevada in the MPC Computers Bowl. (Corporate sponso

As reported by The Leaky Cauldron, JKR has revealed the name of book 7, and it is... drumroll please... Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows.
Very ominous, having "death" in the title. And it's Hallows, not Hollows, as in Godric's Hollow.
Frankly, it wasn't the grabber of a name that I thought book 7 would h

I was reading some story that mentioned a guy playing racquetball in his spare time, and I got to thinking, "Whatever happened to racquetball?" It was a hugely popular activity in the 1980's. It seemed like everyone who led an active lifestyle incorporated racquetball in their daily routine, and all the major gyms had racquetball courts. Now, I don't see any racquetball courts anywhere, and I don't

When I started watching college football, New Years Day was the big day for bowl games. The four Big Bowls (Rose, Orange, Sugar, and Cotton -- no Fiesta yet) were played on New Years Day, and that's where the best teams played. Then the Fiesta Bowl joined the party, and we got unofficial championship games, which were played on Jan. 2. That made sense, since it was the biggest of the big bowls and d

In the past two weeks, I've read articles about companies that have implemented two of the ideas that I've come up with for Web 2.0 sites. The first was a social networking site that helps people find jobs, referrals, etc., which was the driving force in my creating Stooff over two years ago. This morning, I read about

I always get nervous when there are undefeated teams halfway through the NFL season, but thanks to the Dallas Cowboys, the Colts won't match the 1972 Dolphins' perfect record. I did notice that the Dolphins end their season at the Colts this year, so it would've been quite a game if the Colts had been 15-0 going into that game with the Dolphins needing to beat them to get into the playoffs and preserve the lega
