BBC had a special Weakest Link on tonight with the girlfriends of footballers as contestants, playing for charity money. It turns out that the girlfriends of English footballs are all unspeakably stupid. And I do mean profoundly, utterly, IQ in the 60s range, at-first-I-thought-you-were-parodying-idiocy stupid.
The questions were dumbed down to the level of "What was American President Lincoln's first

There will always be those of us diehards who insist that Metroid was best as a 2D scroller on the SNES. However, even a true fan of the old school would be hard pressed not to admit that Metroid Prime, Samus' first person shooter debut, is damn good. It's gorgeous atmosphere, tight controls and immersing gameplay earned rave reviews from critics, series fans and newcomers alike. There's no question that Metroid P

The following entry will be very funny to anyone familiar with both Steven Erikson and Popomundo. Everyone else will probably be bored.

So we've finally come up with a great idea for a band for the Popokids, inspired in equal parts by the Malazan Empire and our obnoxious, country music-playing upstairs neighbors. We're going to create an Erikson-themed country band! :D With fiddle, harmo

One of the more frustrating aspects of the current financial crisis is that I spend a great deal of time feeling exceptionally stupid in my attempts to understand it. Consider, for example, the following excerpt. It's from an article my mother sent me which explains the crisis "in simple words".
"KKR Financial raises money by issuing asset-backed commercial paper — a claim that's sort of like a sho

I've been listening to All Along The Watchtower a lot lately, and I can't believe the awesomeness of this song never struck me before now. I'm not much of a Hendrix fan but man, Watchtower = <3.

We had a pretty decent trip to NY today. Took a nice bus tour around the city and worked out some of the kinks during the drive. It's been fucking hazy lately and the weather cleared up while we were gone, returning to us our spectacular ocean view. It's nice to see the horizon again.

I had this morning what was probably the worst migraine of my life. I've woken up with awful headaches before, but this is the first time a headache has actually woken me up out of a deep sleep. I woke up with so much pain in my head I could hardly think. It was all I could do to crawl out of bed, find some Relpax and curl up into a whimpering ball until the medication started to kick in. On top of that, s

So, it's official. I've passed all my classes this year. Last grade clocked in yesterday afternoon, which should have been a 7 but thanks to that last (idiotic!) test was a 6 instead. *sigh* Given how hard I worked for that course it's pretty disappointing. You know, I just can't quite bring myself to be pleased with my academic achievements this year. My grades SUCK. :( But at least I won't have to take any

I stumbled across this review of Robert Jordan's "Crossroads of Twilight" on Amazon.com, and it's very funny. It's also, unfortunately, very accurate. Observe:
"Those who can appreciate great setup will really love this book. Personally, I thought the setup in books 8 and 9 were good ... but this was absolutely stupendous. Fans of total plot inertia will be in heaven."
