Stability and search speed

We have now achieved website stability (touch wood) by moving the website functionality into its own protected process on its own server. This has also resulted in much faster search speed.

We soon expect to launch the advanced search functionality, with which we will provide users search forms to put on their journals.

Hardware

We have experienced down time over the last day while we upgrade the hardware. We split the database and web site onto seperate servers, this should allow increased stability for the website as we have split indexing and the website into seperate processes.

We will then launch the advanced search

Beta

Well weve recieved a fiar amount of feedback and are gradually working through the list making modifications, so thanks and keep it coming. At present we are tidying things up. Soon we will be working on limiting search to specific journals, so you can search just your journal or your friends. We are also going to create a search form so you can add this to your journal and search from there.

LJFIND.com goes live!

Finally the day has arrived after 4 months of development and lots of hair pulling we have launched ljfind.com in beta. You can now search over 1 million users and over 30 million posts and growing rapidly.

DB Migration

Ok so we found out memory allocation for db2 on linux went wrong. We had to drop the DB and recreate, there is currently a few hours left to catch up with the data, but then of course the weekend gets in the way. Hopefull the guys will finish of the DB stuff for monday, and switch it live on Tuesday.(If there is no more problems)

Right all the data is transfered, we are now tuning memory allocation for db2 . Once that is done we can swap to db2 , test and then release it to ljfind.com. Hopefully hours rather than days but who knows!

DB Migration still

Well there have been some problems in DB migration speed that are still ongoing, at this rate it will take over a week, so we are trying to find the bottleneck. This really is the last thing we need to do before we can go live in Beta. Im kind of impatiently twidling my thumbs waiting for the guys to sort it!!!
