One of the best things about Valve's work since HL2 has been excellent sound production and mixing (sound-loop bug aside). The best examples are the mixing on "Meet the Demoman" and the wonderful work in the whole of Portal.
Rock Band needs to have a Mad Capsule Markets song in it in order to really destroy people playing the drummer parts. Maybe "All the Time in a Sunny Beach".
Since I've been low on cash I haven't bought any games, except I saved up especially in order to get the Orange Box package.
Team Fortress 2 is goddamn fantastic. I played a little of TFC a few years ago and couldn't get into it and from the 3 hours I've played 2 it's easy to tell the balance has been very, very carefully played with to make it much more fun. The graphic style actually also helps there too
That game is both broken and amazing. It's hilarious with it's bugs, yet thanks to a fan patch it's entirely playable now (with some patience). It's fascinating to see the seriously advanced ideas they had and how they tried to implement them and it came out in 1998.
