Happy St. Patrick's Day, y'all!
On Saturday night I had some people over to celebrate.

The house is never clean enough to have people over. Whenever I'm going to host a gathering I just clean all day until the moment people arrive, but it's still fairly chaotic. Ah well. The nice thing about being a grownup is that if I clean for a party, the house is usually still pretty clean *after* the party. Not like the old college days when the morning after found the floor coated in a layer of spilled beer and

I just added a new book to my 2008 reading list: The Strangeness of Beauty, by Lydia Minatoya. I wanted to record a few quotes here that I liked.

"Listen, Akira," she said softly, like a mother sharing life's secrets with a child. "in their argument is the melody of marriage."
Akira paused. Now the couple was sq

Last fall Nick and I scattered a bunch of wildflower seeds in the front yard. I had no idea if any of them would take. There have been a bunch of plants growing all over the yard and I couldn't tell if they were just weeds or not. But they weren't ugly so I left them. Then, yesterday, I discovered this on one of them:

My parents headed back to MA today. It was fun having them here and I'll miss them. But getting back into the daily routine is a good thing. If only there wasn't so MUCH daily routine to get back into.
I did a lot of yard work on my week off. The weather has been utterly amazing. Right now I'm out on the patio. The climbing roses outside our bedroom window have burst into bloom, and the air is deeply fragr

My hands are a mess.
My parents and I spent the morning taking down the very dead grapefruit tree. Dad wielded the chainsaw while my mom and I broke up branches and hauled them into the alley for the green waste. I am cut up and splintered to death. I also pruned the bougainvillea which didn't help matters. Bougainvillea can be pretty but that shit will try to KILL you when you get near it.

I had a good day today. I didn't even try to get any work done.
I spent a really nice morning with the boyfriend. Then I came home and woke up my lazy-ass husband, who had taken the day off and slept in late. Rob took me up to the new Tempe Marketplace (think of a mall, but outdoors) because I had never been there. We had an overpriced lunch at Cadillac Ranch, then went to Victoria's Secret because I've be
