I forgot that tonight was "casino night"/law school prom. I received this rather charming email from the Student Bar Association:
Just a friendly reminder to bring your ID to Casino Night tonight because the police will be checking. Look forward to see everyone there!!
I'm honestly not sure whether or not this is a joke. Will there, in fact, be police officers there carding la

Given my resume, the small to mid size firms and government agencies I'm interviewing with naturally assume that it would be a trivial matter for me to obtain biglaw employment. I do everything I can to not inform them of the truth.
Today's example was fun. I was thrown off script, because the question was asked in a somewhat unusual way.
Interviewer: So, have you already committed to an employ

The Lionness and Ruth have been discussing law school prom lately. I know there's 1Ls who read this space, so I'm going to do you a favor and tell you this: Don't. Go. Seriously. I was told how great it was last year, and went because others advised me to. I have since found those people and murdered them.
Let's break it down:

I finally swallowed my pride, and sent a mass email to everybody on Law Review asking for any connections that will yield a job that doesn't involve wearing a paper hat. A couple of leads, but nothing definitive.
I have a couple of hours between classes, and spring OCI results are in, so it's time to update my counter. Since 1/1/07, I've had:
Rejections: 15 Non-rejections: 3 Upcoming j

Dear potential employers,
During the brief interim between the false hope raised by a seemingly good interview and the inevitable rejection letter, I'm in a care-free, even charitable mood. As a result, I offer you this free advice: Don't send somebody who looks just like Stephen Colbert. If you *must* do so, make him leave his Colbert-esque glasses at the office.
Sincerely, Rov

One of my pet annoyances is when phrases become disassociated from their actual meaning, and become ‘code’ for something else.
African American is a great example. Let’s imagine two people: A white kid who was born in Chad and later naturalized into the United States, and a black guy born in Canada whose parents hail from the Dominican Republic. In popular usage, the black guy is an “African American” and

Seriously, what a dumbass. I'm glad I didn't go to Michigan: I'd be freezing my ass off, and I would have had to deal with this putz.
One of my secret powers is that I can type 125 WPM, 150-ish on a good day. Sadly, this is almost a compl

I've been talking to some of my friends on various journals, and I'm a bit flummoxed. All the journals (that I know of) have a note requirement: We have to churn out twenty or so pages of 'original' legal scholarship, and we have the chance to be published.
I can certainly understand the motivations of somebody who wants to be published. People like to talk more than they like to listen, so the average pe

The powers that be at the career services office held an interview tips session today: Two law partners spent ninety minutes giving 'honest' advice, including such helpful tidbits as not mentioning children in any context (whether you want them or not) and what things are okay to lie about.
One of their big points was that it's important to have a geographic connection to the area where you want to practic
