Oh boy, I am so hyped! Today had a talk with my advisor and found a stack of books looking for a new home on the way back. Another prof had put them out in front of his office, with a sign that one was free to take some.
Here's what I got:
Sun, Sex and Gold by Kamala Kempadoo. This is what Cynthia Enloe says about it on the back: "... a smart, nuanced look at how globalization is being

Wow, my brain is fried. I overfocussed again and ended up reading 250 pages in spanish for my essay. Sometimes I lose track of time when doing some very concentrated work and end up doing more than expected. It's like Christmas, but tiring.
Anyway, a major concept in the book is the role language plays in shaping and creating reality. It is a very interesting idea that is found in many different fields; I

The last days have been my official metal music weekend. I go through musical phases where I listen to nothing else but one specific style of music, often even only two or three cds in constant rotation.
So since thursday I have been listening nonstop to Hammerfall's Renegade and Blind Guardian's Imaginations From the Other Side. By now, I feel like to be a real man I ought to be hunting dragons and rescu

I am a coffee junkie. I don't really switch on without a cup o' liquid sunshine first thing in the morning and mostly communicate by grunting until half a cup is down. I guess most people reading this will have a similar thing going.
So, in honor of the dark life-blood of students and teachers everywhere, I sing thee:
(Come on, everybody!)
I love you dear, cause you are black, a

It annoys me more and more when people are late to a meeting. I know that in this respect I completely fall into the clishe of the tight-assed german, but being late is something that really bugs me.
Why does it get me so much? It proves a lack of respect towards me. I know, tubes can be late, cars can be stolen and pianos can drop from the sky, but even these would not be problems if one would leave ten

If anyone ever tries to tell me again that women are closer to nature than men I will scream. Seriously. And I will throw heavy objects if my flatmates try to tell me again that masculine aggressive behavior and feminine submissiveness are completely natural, and bitch about how men are so discriminated against.
I am very tired.

It is always humbling when coming across stuff written some years in the past. I had this experience with old essays, reading notes or even emails, but today was probably the most striking example of how much one can progress in two years or so.
I revised for my upcomming gender studies exam, and reread some journal papers from my second year. Oh boy, was I lacking critical reading skill. Some of the comme

I have a deep love for cheesiness and overly dramatic gestures, this includes grease monkeys, 80s breakdancers and professional magicians. This guy here just hits it right on the head. After seeing this, Siegfried and Roy will blush while Hans Klock and Kopperfield go on a drunken bender to drown their depression in a sea of cheep booze and thighs of vegas dancers. Seriously.
So please switch on your hidde
